THE THIEF OF TIME
"After this, no more", Vin said to himself as he clicked on the next episode. This was the 8th time he was telling himself that. He really couldn't stop himself from wanting to know what happened next in the movie. For the past 8 hours he has had his eyes glued to the tv screen. He quickly looked at the clock on the wall to check the time, it was 01:25 am. He remembered he was going to write a quiz by 9am that morning. "After this episode, I'll read for the quiz" he thought and settled to watch the movie.
"Grrring! Grrring!! Grrring!!!", the alarmed clock kept buzzing off. Vin opened his eyes slowly, yawning at the same time. He looked at the clock, 8.45 am. In disbelief, he wiped his eyes with his hand to make sure he wasn't still dreaming. "Jesus! I am dead!", he screamed as he ran into the bathroom. He hurriedly took his bath and put on the first shirt and trousers he laid his hands on. He even forgot to comb his hair as he ran out of the house to the bus stand to board a bus to school.
As he got close to his department, he said a quick prayer for the lecturer to be absent. "But Dr. Uzoma is always punctual for his lectures", a voice in his head said. "God, please make him come late today for my sake", another voice pleaded. Few metres from his class, he heard noise coming from the class. "Thank Goodness! My prayers have been answered", he whispered to himself as he wore a huge smile on his face.
Entering the class, he saw his classmates in groups discussing what seemed like possible questions that'd come out in the quiz. Joining one of the groups to listen to the questions they were anticipating, he realized they were actually discussing the answers to the questions of the quiz. They had written the quiz already! He had missed the quiz! He had missed 50 marks!
Asking someone beside him, he was told Dr. Uzoma had given the quiz at exactly 9am and left 30 minutes later because he had a meeting to attend. There was nothing Vin could do, but cry. The 50 marks was gone.
MORAL:
Sometimes, we think we have things under control and assume we have enough time to carry them out later. Things might just turn out to be different for us. Stop procrastination and do what you have to do at the right time. Procrastination is only a thief of time.
