IRRESPONSIBLE RESPONSIBILITY
Month after month, she has been carrying it
Avoiding some food and drinks because of it
For 9 months, she proved some help she can do without
For 9 months, she battled the urge to flush it out
Her present posture reminds her how it all started
She was lying down too that day when his device he inserted
She remember asking him to use the latex
Since she wasn't ready to send him the "I'm late text"
"I know a style that's the latest", he said
"It's so efficient. You wouldn't have to take tests", he said
And she let him. They had some minutes of pleasure
She wished she could have it at her every leisure
Three weeks later, he left her & flew abroad
She really missed him, but missed her period more
She remember her father lamenting on how she brought him shame
And how she had dragged into the dirt his name
Her education crumbled. She dropped out of school
She couldn't bear her mates taking her for a fool
For 9 months, she survived the gossips of the neighbours
And waited expectantly for the day of labour
As she lay on the delivery table breaking the silence with her screams
Thinking of how close she was to living every woman's dream
Only 17, it was too early for a girl her age
As she thought of it, she was full of rage
She remembered the sweet words he told her that turned out to be lies
Her train of thoughts was soon broken by a baby's cry
She was so weak. All her muscles were numb
The doctor whispered in her ears, "Congrats! You're now a mum"
Tears rolled her face. She felt joy in her heart
But she still wished she had played safe from the start
