LOOKING OUT FOR YOUR MENTAL HEALTH WHILE PROTESTING
During protests, people are at risk of violence, being arrested and even tear gas, which all have adverse effects on their mental health, one way or the other.
So while protesting, let’s not forget to prioritize our mental health.
Here’s how you can protect your mental health;
>> Limit exposure (for those following through the news and social media).
>> Prioritize and plan your level of engagement.
>> Avoid tear gas whenever possible.
>> Stay prepared first medical emergencies (be ready for a first aid before the ambulance or health workers arrive).
>> Be moderate in everything you do.
>> Stay connected with friends and family.
>> Recognize the signs of burnout.
>> Acknowledge the trauma.
>> Regularly practice ‘Emotional Freedom Technique (ETF) Tapping’ (identifying the stress points in your body, exercising regularly, journaling, positive affirmations and meditation).
>> Talk to someone and vent if necessary(it helps ease built up tension and anger).
>> Avoid googling your symptoms, it can contribute to anxiety.
>> Pray! (Believe it or not, your spiritual life has a reasonable amount of impact on your mental health. Regardless of your religion, pray!)
