BENEFITS OF MEDITATION

Image
Meditation is exactly what the image above says it is! It’s not worry or anxiety. It’s building a quiet place in your mind. Meditation is a time your mind becomes quiet and relaxed enough to let your brain and mind rest. It’s when you see, hear, feel, and analyze clearly. Some emotional benefits of meditation are; * Gaining a new perspective. * Manage your stress better. * Increasing self-awareness. * Focusing on the present. * Reducing negative emotions. * Heightened Imagination and creativity. * Building patience and tolerance. * Sleep better at night. * Make better choices. Learn to meditate this month.  Teach your mind peace and quiet.  Teach yourself to be more at ease. P.S: I’ll be making a more detailed post on meditation, soon. So keep reading . #khaysays #newmonth #newmonthnewgoals #newmonthvibes #november #november2020 #november1 #meditation #peace #peaceandquiet #peacefulmind

LOOKING OUT FOR YOUR MENTAL HEALTH WHILE PROTESTING

Image
During protests, people are at risk of violence, being arrested and even tear gas, which all have adverse effects on their mental health, one way or the other. So while protesting, let’s not forget to prioritize our mental health.  Here’s how you can protect your mental health; >> Limit exposure (for those following through the news and social media). >> Prioritize and plan your level of engagement. >> Avoid tear gas whenever possible. >> Stay prepared first medical emergencies (be ready for a first aid before the ambulance or health workers arrive). >> Be moderate in everything you do. >> Stay connected with friends and family. >> Recognize the signs of burnout. >> Acknowledge the trauma. >> Regularly practice ‘Emotional Freedom Technique (ETF) Tapping’ (identifying the stress points in your body, exercising regularly, journaling, positive affirmations and meditation). >> Talk to someone and vent if necessary(it helps eas...

EFFECTS OF PROTESTS ON MENTAL HEALTH

Image
According to recent research at the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, ‘the mental outcomes following collective actions, which includes but not limited to protests, can be comparable to natural disasters, terrorist attacks or armed conflicts.’ I’m not really surprised and it doesn’t help that most Nigerians neglect their mental health. In Nigeria, the adverse effects of protests on mental health has been measured to be at 41%. This includes community spillover effects (where those who weren’t involved in protests display some of these effects). Here are some of these effects; >> Anxiety Symptoms.  >> Anxiety Disorder. >> Behavioral Issues. >> Depression. >> Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). >> Psychiatric Admission. >> Psychological Distress. >> Psychiatric Prescriptions. >> Substance Abuse. >> Suicide. Some people may try to cope through; alcohol consumption, marijuana use, social withdrawal,...

THOUGHTS ON #EndSars PROTEST

Image
‘Generation Z’, the generation I’m proud to be a part of.  This entrepreneurial generation This independent generation This generation who knows the scores This generation who embrace change This generation who wants their voices heard. I’m proud to be a part of such a generation. Ever since it’s inception in late 1992, the dissolved Special Anti-Robbery Squad #EndSars has committed unpardonable atrocities without remorse and #NigerianYouths have had it. I smile when I see this generation standing up for their right and exercising it in demanding change.  Now, they say they have dissolved SARS and replaced it with SWAT ⁉️  Does changing a thief’s name from ‘James’ to ‘Paul’ stop him from being a thief ❓ While these protests are ongoing, the @NigerianPoliceForce has failed to keep its officers assigned to these protest areas, in line. The results being the gory deaths, harassment, and brutalization of our ‘should be’ leaders of today.   The saddest part of all th...

“Soulmates Who Lived Two Streets Away” | Read Chichi & Stan’s Love Story

Image
BY LO VEWEDDINGSNG  · MAY 14,2016 Chichi and Stan are set to wed soon. The couple shared their story and pictures from their engagement shoot with us via our vendor –  Klala Photography . How we met It all started mid- year 2003, when I had just graduated from High school and was trying to get into the university. I had a couple of months to wait for admission and so I was spending more time with my family and friends in my neighborhood. One sweet evening, I was on my way to the video rental store to return a movie I had rented when I noticed a fair, young, pretty girl coming home from school. I had never felt that way, seeing her pass by. Being the shy person I was back then, I did not say anything to her that day. However, I followed her to know exactly where she lived. As soon as she vanished into a black gate on a popular street, two streets away from mine, I felt my mission for that day was accomplished and so I retired home to strategize. The next day, I went back ...

HOLY SPIRIT (MY LOVE)

Your love washes over me; Like a thin fine silk. Your presence is; Like a still peaceful wind. Your touch gives me goose bumps; And puts me into deep visions and revelations. When you speak to me; Time itself stands still. When i think about you; I feel so good and beautiful. When i remember our time together; I feel taken care of and loved. You're all i want and all I'll ever need.

REALITY OF REALITY

Image
Close your eyes and feel it Feel the peace within Do you see how far it goes? It engulfs the entire mind It gives you that settled feeling, in the gut. That feeling that nudges you  to do a little extra That nudges you to go a little farther That nudges you to soar a little higher and stronger. It brings you to the point of realisation and actualisation To the point you're  up against the wall To that point you're  falling off the edge, and you have no other option than to land safely.  It is at this point, we all realise the reality of our reality. We've let fears boss our dreams We've let fantasies crush our ambitions We've had it all but was blinded by our own gutlessness We've led a false life. Now all we can do is make-up Not for the outward beauty But for the inner beauty of fearlessness, boldness, courage, integrity, honesty, love  and all that makes us real .
